From 2003 to Present: Since 2003 I've turned to freelance writing for most of my income and in 2007 I became a full time freelance writer. While writing magazine articles is my main focus, I also write marketing collateral for businesses like case studies, letters, advertorials, pamphlets, newsletters, press releases, press kits, fact sheets and field guides.

Prior to 2003, I was a feature reporter for a weekly in Maple Valley, Washington, I've taken a number of classes including a correspondence course from the University of California in article writing. I've also attended the Pacific Northwest Writer's Conference for many years and taken advantage of their educational workshops, the Chicago One-on-One Magazine Writers Conference, Travel Media Showcase and the Jackson Hole Writer's Conference. My writing specialties include: business, going green, health, spas, travel, emergency preparedness and pets.

Freelance Writing for 2008: I've been published in Beauty Store Business, Pregnancy, ParentMap, American Profile, City Dog, Road King, Northwest Meetings & Events, Texas Meetings + Events, P-O-P Times and grandparents.com. Topics have included a glass blowing artist who uses Mt. St. Helen's ash; Skipper, a green spokesdog; brain boosters to get youngsters to talk earlier, motivational meetings and a NASCAR theme park.

Freelance Writing for 2007: I've been published in Better Homes & Gardens, Pregnancy, ParentMap, American Profile, DaySpa, Home and Health, MyBusiness, Road King, USAA, Caring Today, Beauty Store Business, Pizza Today and Expedia.com. Topics have included animal testing in beauty products, Sam Bass, NASCAR artist; the Daytona 500 Experience, employee motivations and incentives, firing a customer, pizzerias in theme parks, gardening therapy, video surveillance and much more.

Community Relations Writer, Federal Way Public Schools, 2000-2003
I prepared press kits for special events like groundbreakings and anniversaries. I assisted the media when they were looking for resources and suggested story ideas to them. I wrote press releases, articles for our quarterly newsletter to the community and web site content.
